Tree Survey: BS5837:2012
All trees, regardless of their protected status, can be a material consideration in a planning application. The British Standard "Trees in relation to construction - Recommendations" BS5837:2012 recommends the steps that should be taken to ensure that trees are appropriately and successfully retained when a development takes place.

Ecology Phase 1 Habitat Survey
A Phase 1 Habitat Survey/ecological appraisal is usually the first step in appraising the ecological value of a site. It comprises of an initial walkover of the development site, mapping habitats and identifying whether there is potential for protected species to occur.
Depending on initial findings, further detailed surveys may be required, for example a formal Ecological Impact Assessment, (EcIA). FLA prepares impact assessment reports in accordance with the latest guidelines from the IEEM.
